Upload Help

To upload means to put one or more of your own files onto the site`s   webserver, so that they will be accessible to your audience. The following file types are catered for:

  • Images -- for inclusion in webspace pages
  • Docs -- pdfs or other documents that you want to reference in a webspace page ( say because you cant convert it to text easily)
  • Templates-- special html files for use with your webspace

How to upload

1. The link to uploads page is on your main admin page.

2. Set the menu for the file type you have. This will upload the image into the right folder for easy later access. Misfiled files may be deleted.

3. Click browse to find the file on your hard drive.

4. Optionally upload your file with name xxx as name yyyy. Specify a new filename to upload as if your original filename is not legal, friendly, or meaningful.

5. Make sure after you click upload file button that it reports success. If it reports that the file did not upload, and there was an error, the most likely cause of this is that your file size is too big.

Points to remember about upload files

  • Use filenames that mean something to you
  • filenames can be up to 256 characters
  • Spaces and punctuation of any kind is not allowable in filenames. If you upload with these they will be either removed or converted to the _ character.
  • Keep the size of image files small. 100-400 pixels is about right. Remember that small files means a webpage that loads quickly for your viewers.
  • The max file size is 75K, for images, but up to 125K for docs.

Uploaded files must be for the purpose of   inclusion in one or more webspaces, and therefore related to the objectives of this site and community in general. Uploaded files not so included may be deleted.

Uploaded files must be of reasonable size and content. Any content deemed offensive or inappropriate may be deleted. Excessively large files wil be deleted. ( ie any file over 100K) excpet by arrangement.

As a guide only the following file types are permitted:

  • acrobat pdf
  • powerpoint, word, excell
  • images: gif, png, jpg
  • html

Be particulary wary of images created by digfital cameras, and scanners. You must spend some time with each image, using an image editor to reduce the pixel width to around 200-500 wide. Jpeg compression should be set to medium or fair.

The overall amount of webserver space we have is limited and we appreciate your cooperation with these guidleines.
